Finding Growth in Design and Greenery
For this assignment, I needed to write a feature profile that introduced readers to someone interesting through interviews, observations, and background research. I chose to focus on graphic designer Taylor Strain, whose Charlotte apartment doubles as a greenhouse studio filled with nearly 50 plants. To report the story, I spent time in her apartment taking notes on the space, interviewed Taylor about her childhood, her design journey, and the pressure of starting a career, and spoke with her mom and a close friend for extra perspective. I also pulled in research on how indoor plants can reduce stress to help connect her environment to her creative process. Through her story, I explore how creativity, patience, and personal growth intertwine. It's a piece about inspiration, uncertainty, and the slow process of growing into your craft.
